CNNMoney issued a list of American cities with five or more Fortune 500 headquarters on May 23, 2011. According to the list, Cleveland, Columbus, Englewood, Los Angeles, McLean, Milwaukee, Omaha, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Richmond, and San Antonio each has five Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the city.

The only city in the list with six Fortune 500s is Cincinnati, with seven is Charlotte, and with nine is Minneapolis.

CNNMoney lists Chicago, St. Louis, and San Francisco as having eight Fortune 500 headquarters each, while Dallas and Atlanta 10 each.

The city with the second most number of Fortune 500s is Houston, which has 22 Fortune 500 headquarters.

The number one spot is secured by New York City with 45 of America's largest corporations - by far the most number of Fortune 500s that chose NYC to establish their headquarters in.

Such big presence of the U.S.' most profitable companies in NYC has attracted many large-, medium-, and small-sized businesses to the city and given (and continues to give) birth to new businesses by the residents. According to U.S. Small Business Administration, U.S. Census Bureau, there are about 954,311 small businesses being run in NYC.
